This past Sunday, we celebrated Trinity Sunday. It is the only Sunday that I know of in the church year that focuses on a doctrine.
Understanding the concept or should I say accepting the concept of One God, Three Persons is a foundational piece of Christianity. We believe in God, the Creator, God, the Redeemer, and God, the Advocate.
Notice I used believe not understand. I am not sure it is possible for us to understand how there is One God and three persons. However, I know and believe it is true and accept the mystery of the Trinity.
What I think is more important to our walk as Christians, is understanding and modeling how the Trinity works together. Each is independent and yet interdependent. We are blessed by all persons of the Trinity and the Trinity would not be complete if one part did not exist.
So how does that teach us to live as followers of God? The Trinity teaches us that we are interdependent. We need each other to do the work of God, with our hands. We need each other. I think that is the most important lesson of the Trinity. We need one another. We are called to be in community. Modeling our lives like the Trinity calls us to interdependence; each of us completing our part of God’s work and depending upon our neighbor to do their part.
May we this week, learn from the Trinity and do our part to share God’s love with this world.
