Mission and Values

Welcome. We are St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Rooted in Scripture and the Lutheran tradition, we gather to worship God, grow in faith, and serve our neighbors with grace and compassion.

Our Mission

We proclaim God’s grace in Jesus Christ, nurture faith through worship and study, and serve our community in love and justice.

  • God’s promise: God creates, sustains, heals, and makes all things new.
  • Grace alone: Salvation is a gift of God’s grace through Jesus Christ, not earned by works.
  • Faith alive: Faith is a living trust in God that moves us to love and serve others.
  • Trinity: We worship God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Our Values

Grace and welcome

Everyone is invited. God’s love is a gift for all people, no matter their questions, doubts, or past. We welcome you as you are.

Word and sacrament

Worship, Scripture, and the sacraments shape our life together.
We celebrate the good news through prayer, preaching, song, and Holy Communion.

Service and compassion

Faith leads to action. We respond to human need with practical care, local outreach, and ongoing partnerships that promote dignity and hope.

Formation and growth

We encourage lifelong learning: Bible study, faith formation for children and adults, and small groups that deepen spiritual life.

Justice and reconciliation

We seek peace and pursue justice.
The Gospel calls us to confront injustice, work for the common good, and practice honest self-reflection and reconciliation.

Community and relationships

Church is both worship and company.
We build authentic relationships across generations and differences, sharing hospitality, support, and mutual care.

What this all looks like at St. Matthew’s

  • Open worship that blends familiar Lutheran liturgy with lively music and welcomes participation.
  • Programs for children and families, including nursery and Sunday School.
  • Practical outreach and volunteer opportunities that meet local needs.
  • Accommodations for accessibility and supportive ministries for people in every season of life.
  • Ongoing commitment to learning, conversation, and work for justice and reconciliation.

Who is welcome?

All people. The ELCA teaching that God’s grace is for everyone guides us: there is no one for whom Christ did not die. We strive to be a place of belonging for people of every background, identity, and life story.

A brief word on faith Faith is trust in God’s promises.

It is a gift that frees us to live with gratitude, to forgive, and to love our neighbors. We welcome questions, doubts, and exploration as faith grows in community.
